Arthur Fery reveals nose operation amid Wimbledon semi run

Arthur Fery, a 23-year-old wildcard and world number 114, will return to Centre Court on Friday at 13:30 BST to face second seed Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon semi-final. Fery grew up less than a mile from the All England Club, first stepping on court aged four at the Westside Tennis Club, and is now one win away from a place in the SW19 final. Born in Sèvres and raised in London, Fery is the new British number one; his mother Olivia played doubles at the 1991 French Open and competed in the Fed Cup, while his father Loic formerly owned Ligue 1 club Lorient. Coaches who helped develop him include family friend Alison Taylor, Craig Veal at Sutton Tennis Academy, and former ATP player Benoit Foucher; Veal and Foucher opted to develop Fery by playing him against adults in the UK rather than pushing early international junior travel. As a junior he won World Tennis Junior singles and doubles titles and reached a career-high junior ranking of 12, and he progressed to the professional breakthrough that has produced this shock semi-final run. Wimbledon has already noted Fery is only the second men's singles wildcard in the tournament's history to reach the semi-finals, underscoring how rare his run has been.
