Scott Jennings pressed over alleged call with Mitch McConnell

journalismJul 10, 20261076,557

Scott Jennings said on July 7 that he spoke to Sen. Mitch McConnell from the hospital for roughly 20 minutes, discussing Iran, Ukraine, the unfolding situation in Maine, a visit to the TR Presidential Library, and Senate history. McConnell, 84, has been hospitalized since June 14; his office has not disclosed the reason, though emergency dispatch audio from that morning indicated someone at the senator’s residence was unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Jennings appeared later on CNN’s The Arena with host Kasie Hunt, who and other guests pressed him for details and urged him to call McConnell on air; Jennings laughed and said he had not expected the call and emphasized McConnell’s desire for privacy. Senate colleagues confirmed recent contacts: Majority Leader John Thune spoke with McConnell on July 6 in a “long and substantive” call, and Majority Whip John Barrasso spoke on July 7 for about 20 minutes. McConnell’s aides have said he “continues to improve” and is working with staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while out of session. Jennings’s on-air appearance and his claim of speaking with McConnell generated a wave of online jokes and memes, which CNN described as one of the year’s funniest internet trends.

"If Scott Jennings, Thune, and everybody else could have a 20-minute phone call with Mitch McConnell, he should be able to shoot a 60-second proof-of-life video to show us that he’s okay. I think they know the deadline for a special election is August 3rd."

for all we know, Mitch McConnell has gone to that Great Terrarium in the Sky, yet Republicans are now insisting they're getting phone calls from the comatose turtle. thank you for your attention to today's post, in which I also cover Donny shitting the bed at NATO. link is here: bit.ly/4pg5KGk

you can say this about Mitch McConnell: he sure knows how to stay dead. or incapacitated. or whatever the fuck is going on with him at the hospital where his handlers have him stashed away.

it’s been 24 days since Mitch McConnell was found at his home in DC, unconscious and in cardiac arrest, and rushed to a hospital. at no point during those 24 days have we had one sign of life from Mitch. all we’ve gotten are vague assurances from his handlers about how awesomely he’s been doing.

and now that speculation is ramping up that things may not exactly be going swimmingly for Old Mitch, this whole stupid thing has become a farce.

the GOP has apparently decided that the best way to deal with all these pesky questions about ‘what the fuck is up with McConnell’ is to play a vigorous round of Weekend At Mitch’s, with Republican Senator John Barrasso and CNN found object Scott Jennings now claiming to have had ‘20-minute-long’ conversations with the esteemed Senator Turtlehump.
