Kasie Hunt presses Scott Jennings to call Mitch McConnell on CNN

journalismJul 8, 202610526,353

On Tuesday’s CNN broadcast of The Arena, host Kasie Hunt pressed conservative commentator Scott Jennings to call Sen. Mitch McConnell live after Jennings said he had spoken with the senator earlier that day. Jennings told the panel McConnell called him and they spoke for 17 minutes about Iran, Ukraine and the history of the vice presidency, and he said McConnell’s voice sounded strong and that the senator was “feeling okay.” Hunt challenged Jennings’s assessment, telling him the show’s phone lines were open if McConnell wanted to call in; Jennings deflected with a joke and declined to place a call on air. McConnell, 84, has been hospitalized since June 14 and his office said he is “receiving excellent care” and continuing to work with staff; the specifics of his medical condition remain unclear. Conservative activist Laura Loomer posted an unconfirmed claim on X that McConnell was “officially brain dead,” a report McConnell’s office has not corroborated.

Kasie Hunt asked Scott Jennings on live TV if McConnell would be willing to call in to CNN. The discomfort on Jennings’ face while he tried to bullshit his way around that answer was really something. Methinks we still aren’t getting the whole story.

"If Scott Jennings, Thune, and everybody else could have a 20-minute phone call with Mitch McConnell, he should be able to shoot a 60-second proof-of-life video to show us that he’s okay. I think they know the deadline for a special election is August 3rd."

@Mike Nellis: If Scott Jennings and John Thune can have a 20 minute phone call with Mitch McConnell, he should be able to shoot a 60 second proof of life video. #Blues #DOOR
