Astronaut Jeremy Hansen retiring from Canadian Space Agency

scienceJul 6, 20262364

Astronaut Jeremy Hansen, a member of NASA’s Artemis II crew that flew around the moon in April, is leaving the Canadian Space Agency and will pursue "new professional opportunities" beginning in September, the agency said. Hansen, 50, of London, Ontario, will continue to serve as a reservist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. The four-person Artemis II crew comprised commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover and mission specialists Hansen and Christina Koch; the flight made Hansen the first non-American to travel beyond low Earth orbit and the first person to speak French while en route to the moon. Hansen joined the Canadian Space Agency after a career as a fighter pilot and was recruited to the CSA in 2009. Sample reporting and posts note he has 32 years in military service and 17 years as a CSA astronaut. His departure formally takes effect in September and will remove Canada’s only active astronaut who has flown beyond low Earth orbit from the agency roster.
