President Donald Trump on Sunday posted a falsified image showing former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama waving as they board an Air Force One that had been spray-painted with slogans including "YES WE CAN," "OBAMA," and "BLM," plus Arabic graffiti reading "alhamdulillah." The image, shared on his Truth Social account, manipulated a real scene to add graffiti; the White House and the Obamas did not immediately comment. News outlets noted the use of graffiti as a coded trope linking Black people to crime and urban decay and placed the post in the context of Trump’s yearslong pattern of intensely personal and incendiary attacks on the Obamas, including a February post that depicted them as primates and was later deleted after bipartisan backlash. The new image followed another doctored post last month that altered a rendering of Obama’s presidential library to look dilapidated. The story comes as Trump last week flew on a newly retrofitted Boeing 747-800 Air Force One valued at about $400 million gifted by Qatar and days before he departs Monday for a NATO summit in Turkey.
