Jasmine Paolini defeated Alexandra Eala 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, ending the Filipina's historic run. Eala, 21, had become the first player from the Philippines to reach the fourth round of a major in the Open era after beating defending champion Iga Swiatek, but could not sustain that form against the resilient 14th seed. Paolini, 30, produced fiery winners early, held her nerve after a frustrating second set and converted a break at 5-3 in the decider following an Eala double fault and an overhit forehand. The match on Centre Court lasted two hours and 22 minutes and took place with Roger Federer in the Royal Box; Paolini thanked him afterward and called positivity her "superpower." Paolini said 2026 had been a tough year and that she had been managing a foot injury, making this her first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance since reaching back-to-back finals at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024. Paolini will next face Ukrainian 12th seed Marta Kostyuk, who beat American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger earlier on Monday.
