Jasmine Paolini reaches Wimbledon quarterfinals

Jasmine Paolini beat Alexandra Eala 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, ending Eala's run. Eala had become the first player from the Philippines to reach the fourth round of a major in the Open era when she beat defending champion Iga Swiatek, but the 21-year-old could not sustain that form against the resilient Italian. Fourteenth seed Paolini, 30, fought through two hours and 22 minutes despite struggling with a foot injury this year and said her positivity was her "superpower." Paolini recovered from a tense second set, took control in the decider after Eala double faulted in the eighth game and served out the win with Roger Federer watching from the Royal Box. This is Paolini's first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance since reaching back-to-back finals at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024. Paolini will next face 12th seed Marta Kostyuk, who beat American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger earlier on Monday.
