Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at the palace

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not be staying at the palace during part of his London visit after royal sources said the duke missed the deadline to formally accept an offer of accommodation by the end of last week. The palace says it told the Sussex team over the weekend that the invitation could not be honoured because the household needs a minimum notice period to provide staff and security, and that the duke had formally declined on Saturday before later changing his position too late for arrangements to be made. A Sussex spokesperson said the offer had been formally accepted and described its withdrawal as "disappointing." Palace officials also cited concerns about Harry staying in a royal residence on the day the judgment is handed down in his High Court case against Associated Newspapers on 7 July, saying it could affect the King’s constitutional position. Prince Harry remains due to carry out engagements this week, expected to arrive Monday and attend his first London event on Tuesday. The clash over who declined or accepted the offer increases tensions between the two camps and could complicate an expected meeting between King Charles and Prince Harry this week.
