Fishermen Mallory Harrigan, Cliff Russell, and Allan Russell rescued a starving Arctic fox from a small mushroom-shaped iceberg a few miles off Labrador, Canada. The fox was wet, weak, and being harassed by seagulls when the crew pulled their crab boat alongside, broke the ice, and coaxed it aboard with a dip net after it fought to escape. The crew made a makeshift bed and nursed the fox; it refused food for five to six hours before eating chips, crackers, and then a tin of Vienna sausages. Once rested and fed, the crew released the fox back on land near William's Harbour, where Mallory says she still sees it from time to time. The rescuers described the fox as likely having been stranded after the ice broke while it searched for a meal.
