Jarell Quansah was sent off in the 54th minute of England’s World Cup Round of 16 win over Mexico after a VAR review deemed his studs-up challenge on Jesús Gallardo a straight red. Replays showed Quansah slid in early in the second half and caught Gallardo high, leaving the Mexico player on the turf; referee Alireza Faghani issued the dismissal after checking the pitchside monitor. The Mexico bench reacted furiously and Alan Shearer, commentating for the BBC, said punches were thrown as both benches clashed on the touchline. England were 2-1 up at the time; Harry Kane then scored from the penalty spot shortly after the sending-off and Raul Jiménez later converted a penalty for Mexico, but England held on to win 3-2. Quansah was deputising at right-back amid ongoing availability problems in that position, with Tino Livramento previously withdrawn from the squad and Reece James sidelined by a hamstring issue. England’s victory sends them into the quarter-finals to face Norway.

The rules are crystal; dangerous play=red card, regardless of whether player was going for the ball & regardless of intent. That's what happened to Quansah earlier this morning and it's what happened to Balogun. FIFA and Infantino are corrupt and doing the bidding of their Godfather Don Whoreleone

A UK MP has now written to Infantino asking that the red card suspension to Quansah be delayed. This is doubly hilarious in that it should actually result in the expulsion of England from the World Cup. sports.yahoo.com/articles/u-k...

A Labour lawmaker has urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to delay the suspension of England player Jarell Quansah and allow him to play against Belgium after the England defender received a red card in Sunday's game against Mexico.

"Whilst I believe that it was right for Jarell Quansah to have received this red card and that refereeing rules must be applied consistently, I believe it would be right to delay his suspension until after the completion of this World Cup," Noah Law wrote in a letter to Infantino.

Trouble is actually that it kinda has been upheld. The red card has not been rescinded, but the punishment for it is suspended, allowing him to play the next game. Now the Q is how that works for another red-carded player - will Quansah be treated the same? A messy situation.

Of course Quandah won’t be treated the same, this has Trump and Infantino’s grubby little hands all over it. You get a red card you are suspended unless it’s rescinded, I don’t believe it has been so this is political interference and clear sporting corruption.

I had that same thought the minute Quansah rolled over the ball. I feel like Quansah’s was more bad luck than anything. I thought Balogun’s was also in the course of play, but in slo mo more dangerous IMO. Outcomes must be equal or again FIFA will be reinforcing its corrupt rep.

If FIFA wasn't a corrupt org run by complete dipshits they'd allow appeals on all red cards, not just the super special ones resulting in 3 day bans. Especially ones recommended by VAR. Those VAR refs in the England match were on crack.

FIFA's suspension of Ronaldo's red card created somewhat of a precedent to suspend Balogun's. But now the only fair thing to do is either suspend all reds during the World Cup (including Quansah last night) or suspend none of them. Trump's involvement has made the whole thing beyond unseemly.
