Naomi Osaka upset world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 7-6(2) on Centre Court to reach her first Wimbledon quarterfinal. The No. 14-ranked Osaka delivered a huge forehand service return to win the match, marking her biggest victory since returning from a 15-month maternity leave between September 2022 and January 2024. Sabalenka had beaten Osaka in their previous three meetings, including in straight sets at Roland Garros, and had not lost in straight sets at a major since the 2020 U.S. Open. Osaka will face No. 10 Karolina Muchova in Tuesday’s quarterfinal after Muchova eliminated last year’s champion Barbora Krejcikova in three sets. With Sabalenka, No. 2 Elena Rybakina, No. 3 Iga Swiatek and Krejcikova all out, the top three seeds are gone and No. 4 Jessica Pegula is now the highest remaining seed on the women’s side.
