Military band plays pop-rock covers at Freedom 250 July 4 show
I know I'm not the only one stifling a giggle while this military band covers "YMCA", a song about gay sex. And then they started playing "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince. I know damn well his estate didn't okay this.
Totally butchered the guitar solo.
There really was a far more apt Village People song for the NAVY band to sing. It’s on the tip of my tongue.
As Minnesotan, I object on the Purple One’s behalf.
It will never not be funny to me, that US fascism adopted, apparently unironically, YMCA as one of its main anthems.
Before YMCA was Living on a Prayer. My hubs said "that's fits... and young couple struggling with affordability in Trump's America". Meanwhile, Belinda Carlisle sang God Bless America in front of the Statue of Liberty.
He spent his entire life fighting the establishment and breaking rules, and his estate is notoriously fiercely protective of his work. A military band blasting Let's Go Crazy at a state event is pure irony.
Jon Bon Jovi has not approved the use of “Living on a Prayer “ for Trump rallies but tonight @ the Washington dc fireworks after Trump spoke the military band is doing a schmaltzy version of that , & schmaltzy versions of other songs . Watching this version of Prince & the maga folks dance is cringe
Omg a version of Toby Keith ‘s questionable “Courtesy of the Red , White & Blue” into Stevie Wonder “Signed , Sealed Delivered.”
Well he is a thief. That's what he does.
Hi there, former DC military bandsman (who worked licensing issues in addition to performing). Licensing for live performing & broadcast covers by military bands is within the Fair Use exemption & does not require permission. Far, FAR different than playing & broadcasting recordings. (1/2)
