Turner Classic Movies is screening Jules Dassin’s Thieves' Highway (1949), starring Richard Conte, Valentina Cortese and Lee J. Cobb, tonight as part of its Eddie Muller, hosted Summer of Darkness film noir festival. The film, about a truck driver who seeks revenge after a mob-connected produce marketer cripples his father, appears in TCM’s late-night Summer of Darkness lineup alongside other 1940s noirs; one listing shows Thieves' Highway timed at 9:45 PM PT. Eddie Muller is hosting Friday nights in June and July, with the two-month festival drawn mainly from his “Endless Night: 25 Noir Films That Will Stand the Test of Time,” 23 of which are included this year. The program is presented roughly chronologically to trace noir’s development, and late-night slots also salute later neo-noirs such as The Long Good Friday (1980), The Yakuza (1974) and Harper (1966). Friday programming excludes June 19 for a Juneteenth tribute.
