FIFA is in discussions to move Mexico v England at the Estadio Azteca from 6pm local time (1am BST Monday) to midday local time (7pm BST Sunday) because of a forecast risk of flooding and thunderstorms. The Football Association and Mexico’s federation say they were not given prior notice and broadcasters have been told a switch to midday is likely. England finished training in Kansas City as news broke and are due to fly to Mexico City on Friday to meet a FIFA request to train at a venue-specific site on Saturday. Mexico coach Javier Aguirre criticised the proposal, saying the change forces a complete replanning, while England players Morgan Rogers and Marcus Rashford said the squad will adapt. Organisers cited recent weather disruptions at the tournament, including an Ecuador match delayed by an electric storm and France’s game against Iraq held up by thunderstorms, and lessons learned from last year’s Club World Cup. Officials and local sources also flagged concerns about mid-day air quality and heat, with projected temperatures around 21 degrees at midday versus 16 degrees at 7pm, and about the impact on travelling England fans and overnight public order in Mexico City.
