Portugal beat Croatia 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup last 32 after Goncalo Ramos headed a stoppage-time winner following Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty, which had cancelled Ivan Perisic’s opener. Croatia thought they had a last-gasp equaliser from Josko Gvardiol, but the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up. Ronaldo scored his first World Cup knockout goal and was later substituted by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez before Ramos’s decisive header. Portugal dominated possession and territory, registering roughly 70 percent possession, nine shots to Croatia’s three, and all six corners. The victory sets Portugal up to face Spain in the round of 16, with the winners slated to meet either the USMNT or Belgium in the next stage.

Football decided by microscopic sound frequency detection is where we are now. Have to take FIFA’s word on this, but all those people clamouring for technology have got us to the point where two sides will never agree on what happened in that last dramatic moment of Portugal-Croatia.
