Portugal beat Croatia 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup last-32 on a stoppage-time header from Goncalo Ramos after Cristiano Ronaldo had levelled with a 68th-minute penalty. Ivan Perisic opened the scoring for Croatia before Ronaldo converted the penalty, which was Ronaldo’s first World Cup knockout goal. Roberto Martinez substituted Ronaldo before Ramos headed Portugal ahead in added time. Croatia thought they had a last-gasp equaliser from Josko Gvardiol, but the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up. Portugal dominated possession and chances, registering roughly 70 percent possession, nine shots to Croatia’s three, and six corners to none, but managed only one shot on target during the game. Portugal will now face Spain in the round of 16, with the winner set to meet either the United States or Belgium next.
