NBA to trial single free throw rule in Las Vegas Summer League

The NBA will test a one-shot free-throw format during the Las Vegas Summer League, the league announced via NBA Communications. Under the experiment a player will take a single free throw that is worth the same number of points as the free throws it replaces, so a foul on a three-point attempt would produce one free throw worth three points. The change is being tried as a Summer League rule experiment aimed at speeding game flow and reducing stoppages, according to media coverage that includes an Independent report and the NBA’s graphic explainer. The test will be limited to Summer League play in Las Vegas this month and could inform whether the NBA pursues the rule for other competitions or regular-season trials next.

Anything to allow for the insane amount of stoppages for ads and issues with reffing. And I'm all for experimenting with stuff like this. But just fix foul baiting, and you fix the free throws issue.

As of now, the Blazers' summer league roster features only 12 players, the fewest of any NBA team that has announced its roster so far. No other team has fewer than 15. Very on brand!
