I worked for a Franciscan organization for several years, and I remember one of the priests commenting on some other matter that the Church never excommunicates anyone; they always do it to themselves by acting “out of communion” with the Church. So, yeah, statement checks out I guess

Now that you mention it, "sermon in Latin" is how the Catholics I know communicate "this is a right-wing church." Very interesting. (I'll skip the story of how I was tricked into going to one such sermon. The Latin made it a lot easier to zone out and ignore it, though!)

SSPX likes to hide their more abhorrent stances behind liturgical nostalgia for “traditional” Latin Mass. The US Anglican Catholics split did a similar thing with the US Episcopal Church over Book of Common Prayer reform. You shouldn’t need fascism to keep your thee’s & thou’s and Holy *Ghost*.
