Canada to debut at Eurovision Song Contest 2027

musicJul 1, 202621437

The European Broadcasting Union and CBC/Radio-Canada confirmed that Canada will make its Eurovision Song Contest debut at the 2027 contest in Bulgaria. CBC/Radio-Canada joined the EBU as a full Member, enabling Canada to enter; the EBU noted Canada is the first new country to join the lineup since Australia in 2015. Coverage and initial public posts pointed to the announcement landing on Canada Day and named potential performers in jest, including Carly Rae Jepsen, Barenaked Ladies and B4-4. Commentary also included criticism accusing the EBU of expanding membership for organizational reasons and posts linking Canada’s participation to broader political questions such as closer ties with Europe or EU membership. The announcement places Canada on the official Eurovision roster for the 2027 contest and opens the path for Canadian broadcasters and artists to participate in the contest’s national selection, promotion and voting processes next year.
