Morocco beat the Netherlands on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, advancing to the World Cup round of 16. Cody Gakpo had given the Netherlands the lead, and Netherlands player Van Hecke suffered a bloody first-half injury. Issa Diop scored a stoppage-time equalizer to force extra time, and Morocco converted the decisive penalty in the shootout to win 3-2. The Netherlands are eliminated from the tournament; Morocco moves on to the knockout stage.

The fact that people are treating Morocco winning against the Netherlands as a huge sensation tells you so much about how we look at football. Morocco: semi-finalist at the last world cup, Africa cup winner, 6th in the Fifa world ranking. I wonder what makes people treat them differently.

Zlatan on the Netherlands and manager Ronald Koeman: "This loss is on Koeman because I didn't recognize this Dutch team. And he lost with an identity that is not the Dutch identity. And that makes me angry. Lose with your identity, and try always with that. That's who you are." ⚽🔥📺🎙️ #WorldCup
