Xbox pauses third-party Game Pass deals

gamingJun 29, 202639435

New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has frozen negotiations for third-party Xbox Game Pass agreements, reportedly putting day-one and subscription deals with indie and other external developers on hold. Multiple developers told reporters and podcast guests that offers already in advanced discussions were halted, with Kaboodle Games CEO Fernando Rizo saying studios were told talks were paused. The move comes as Microsoft reviews a Game Pass strategy that some reports say is losing money after heavy spending on studio acquisitions. An alleged advert for this year’s Call of Duty / Modern Warfare 4 is explicitly using “not on Xbox Game Pass” as a selling point, making it the first big franchise advertised as skipping Game Pass since 2023. Xbox has not given a public timeline for how long the pause will last, leaving affected deals and prospective day-one inclusions in limbo.
