Politico reports former president Donald Trump will hold a July 4 "TRUMP RALLY" on the National Mall. The announcement comes after multiple performers withdrew from the affiliated Great American State Fair, citing concerns about the fair's ties to Trump and prompting lineup changes. Park officials are not planning to reopen portions of the Mall that Trump had said would be ready before July 4; sources say the site will remain closed until at least August. Forecasters warn a dangerous, likely record-setting heat wave will scorch much of the eastern United States during the July 4 week, raising concerns about holding large outdoor events on the Mall. Reports also indicate additional National Guard and law enforcement personnel have been assigned to patrol the Mall for the holiday. Trump had said the park would be reopened before July 4, but officials aren’t planning on reopening it until August (at least), @jakespring.bsky.social and I learned.

Lafayette Square is just north of the White House complex and, as part of President's Park, is managed by the National Park Service. Contractors have been renovating the park since January, and Trump has extolled their work to fix the park's fountains and overhaul its grounds.
"If you walk across the street to Lafayette Park, you'll see something that's incredible," Trump said in the Oval Office on June 3.
"We'll have it open before July Fourth."
That's not likely to happen - the park is not on target to open until at least August, according to the people with knowledge of the park's plans.
