The craziest thing you need to know about Mel Brooks is that in 1974, he released two of the funniest and most iconic films of all time. Even wilder (no relation to Gene, who's in both flicks), Mel Brooks began shooting Young Frankenstein less than two weeks after Blazing Saddles opened.

On a well-timed family vacation, I saw the Young Frankenstein musical in Seattle before it opened on Broadway. This was my favorite joke in the show, and I can't imagine why it was cut before Broadway. (It's because the joke is long and incredibly silly, but hey, it's Mel Brooks.)
