Sunderland do not want to sell Granit Xhaka, who has emerged as a target for Chelsea. The 33 year old is a hugely influential and valuable player at the Stadium of Light, one who proved to be worth much more than the £17m they paid for him last summer.

Not at all surprised in Chelsea going for Granit Xhaka. Xabi Alonso will want him for two reasons: 1. He’s an Alonso disciple. Will probably move into a coaching role under him when he retires. 2. Alonso wants ready-made players. Doesn’t tend to have time for long-term projects.

In fairness to Xabi Alonso, if he is looking for a cultural reset at Chelsea then a signing like Granit Xhaka makes a lot of sense. Also showed last season how he can still cut it in the Prem. Worth noting Sunderland's stance is their skipper is not for sale, though.
