Katie Phang wins court order to release remaining Epstein files
U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan on June 25, 2026 granted journalist Katie Phang a preliminary injunction in PHANG v. BLANCHE (D.D.C. No. 1:26-cv-01417), ordering the Department of Justice to produce the remaining Trump-Epstein files with victims' names redacted. Sullivan's Memorandum Opinion found Phang has standing, that she has been harmed, and that she is likely to succeed on the merits of her claim under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The opinion directs the DOJ and Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche to comply or explain why the records cannot be released by July 2, 2026. Because the order is a preliminary injunction, it requires near-term compliance while the litigation continues and leaves the government able to seek a stay or appeal. The immediate consequence is a tight compliance deadline that will force either rapid production of the records with redactions or swift additional litigation from the DOJ.
