Back‑to‑back 7+ magnitude quakes hit Venezuela, Caracas damaged
Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela within minutes on Wednesday evening, with the U.S. Geological Survey recording an initial magnitude 7.1 followed by a 7.5. The USGS placed the first epicenter west of Morón, about 168 kilometers from Caracas at a depth of 13 kilometers, and recorded the second at a 10-kilometer depth. The quakes collapsed multiple buildings in Caracas and prompted tsunami alerts for coastal areas, creating a high risk of heavy casualties and widespread infrastructure damage across the capital and nearby states.
Awful scenes out of Venezuela tonight, with extensive building collapses after a 7.1 earthquake immediately followed by a 7.5. It seems likely to be a very deadly one. Thinking of the Venezuelan people going through this tonight. www.cnn.com/2026/06/24/w...
well, i guess it’s good that our corrupt president as been putting all those oil dollars into a big trust fund for the Venezuelans. they will need it. what’s that? he probably just stole it?
Time until a very unhelpful Trump post incoming: hours? minutes? my guess: he will reassure the world markets that the US still has a firm hand on expropriating Venezuelan oil exports
I lost a loved one during the earthquake in Haiti, and I am very worried about the people of Venezuela. There is the initial trauma of the collapsing buildings, but then there is the unexpected displacement of people who may not have access to necessities. 😢
