Postmaster General tells Senate USPS won't mail ballots without voter lists
Postmaster General David Steiner told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that, under a proposed USPS regulation tied to President Trump’s executive order, the Postal Service will not deliver mail ballots for states that refuse to provide unredacted state voter rolls; when asked whether ballots would be mailed, Steiner answered, "Under our proposed regulation, no." The proposal would require states to hand over sensitive voter lists to the federal government or risk losing mail voting access, a change that conflicts with a USPS rule adopted last year stating the agency does not administer elections. Senators warned the policy would prevent voters who rely on mail ballots, seniors, disabled residents, rural voters, students, and deployed military, from receiving ballots, and legal experts say the move is likely to trigger lawsuits and pre-election disruption.
