Star Wars: Galactic Racer preview highlights Burnout-style podracing
🚨NEW DOC ALERT🕹️ The "Jedi Problem" in Star Wars Galaxies is infamous, but what's the real story behind the legend? Famed designer @raphkoster.bsky.social talks to @jeremybjayne.bsky.social about what this remarkable game design challenge can teach us. WATCH HERE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAv0...
We have a second @raphkoster.bsky.social video dropping in a few weeks too - all about MMO design. By complete coincidence his upcoming social MMO Stars Reach is coming to Early Access soon. store.steampowered.com/app/1925650
I was there from Beta. I was in a lovely guild, we had a town, I sold weapons as a Wookiee. People were famous off their deeds. Then Jedi came and everyone was theorising how to get one. Then people realised it was just mastering a couple of professions. Communities collapsed.
Love that Noclip is in its Jeremy Unleashed era
YES! Been waiting for this one, gonna be real good dinner-watching.
i really dont like the aesthetic of the new star wars racing game, which isnt it's fault, i just think modern star wars video games games look uniquely bad. it's a combo of disney star wars house style being Desaturated and Grounded + all the shows are also in Unreal Engine
i dont blame the studios working on the games at all this is fully a lucasfilm problem with the current house style but they simply have to let star wars be colourful and and bright again. the 70s movies were also bright and colourful while being rugged and lived-in it wasn't an either/or choice!!
i think a lot of this look for modern star wars ironically comes out of disney's vfx partnership with epic on star wars media and parks stuff
it's because the new movies didn't have a 40-minute in-universe advertisement for Pod Racing. George Lucas stays winning
theyre always trying to replicate the specific ways the models and lighting and explosions looked in the movies, which maybe was novel in like 2015 when nubattlefront did it but 11 years and like 6 games later its just kinda lame. I would like some style please.
I remember back during the period when 1313 was still in active development and later with the EA battlefronts how exciting and cool it seemed that they had access to skywalker sound libraries and old props and such to model after, but in hindsight it does feel like they got stuck in that mindset
"I think Star Wars: Galactic Racer might be the Burnout revival I've waited decades for." www.videogameschronicle.com/features/i-t...
I've got a larger interview coming later, but the people making this game are vastly experienced and, from what I've seen/heard, are shaping an absolute hit. Can't wait to play more
Nice write up! Sounds amazing that they added the damage feature, so you gotta choose between ramming other people and keeping the ship in tact. Burnout reference has me hyped
Not enough of you played Onrush and it's showing in your Galactic Racer previews.
I put so much effort into making a behind the scenes video on it and nobody watched it. Made me sad not just for the video but for what it meant for the game. I love OnRush.
As a person who is always thinking about Onrush, I was thinking about Onrush so much when I demoed it.
What a game - overwatch with cars
