Ukraine warns ceasefire offer to Russia may expire

newsJun 23, 202617946

Ukraine’s UN envoy Andrii Melnyk said Kyiv will withdraw its current ceasefire proposal unless the UN Security Council passes a resolution calling for a full and unconditional end to hostilities. The offer would freeze fighting along the actual front line, a significant compromise that follows a ceasefire Kyiv accepted and Moscow rejected on March 12, 2025. Ukrainian strikes have since targeted Russian logistics and energy nodes, including a Voronezh semiconductor plant Kyiv says supplied components for Iskander-K and Kh-101 missiles, and have contributed to fuel rationing in regions such as Omsk and Voronezh. If Kyiv rescinds the proposal the diplomatic window would close, increasing the chance of renewed offensives and complicating EU efforts to coordinate outreach to Moscow.

Since there’s a primary in NYC today, I get multiple emails from Mamdani/NYC socialist party I looked up their stance on Russia’s war:

The NYC DSA opposes Russia's invasion of Ukraine but blames both sides for the conflict. They demand an immediate ceasefire and diplomacy, while strongly opposing U.S. military aid, weapons shipments, and NATO expansion. This anti-war stance faces heavy backlash from mainstream NY Democrats.

Just to make sure we are on the same page: I never advocate for or against anyone. I am a journalist. I research, report, point things out and connect the dots. Elections are not my business nor ever be. This is something I looked up, and shared Democracy means ability to decide for you. That’s all

War is bad. We get it. But if you can’t distinguish between a war of aggression and an existential war to ensure your survival, then you are naive and idealistic to the point of losing your credibility. - signed, a democratic socialist bsky.app/profile/pbos...

I've warmed to Mamdani quite a bit, but this is an excellent reminder that Russia has been embedded in leftist politics for much longer than they've been tethered to the GOP. It's worth raking DSA over the coals for this one.

Tessa 🌹{⚜️🏇}32

I'll be the first to admit, even as a DSA member (though I don't speak for them in any capacity, I just pay dues), they kinda have dogshit takes to me on some issues. NATO and the above are examples.

Jaye Rich23

What the fuck is this bullshit?

Jason S22

It's unconscionable and embarrassing that an organization that a lot of people think is a good one that they believe in would both sides the russia Ukraine war. And then if you dare criticize them they're going to be mad at you. How is that acceptable? Pure cowardice and shamelessness right there.

🐾💙Lynn Daniel’s💙🐾20

That’s disheartening and disappointing to say the least!

🐾💙Lynn Daniel’s💙🐾18

The blaming of Ukraine blows my mind!

Bruno Dias16

What's your actual source for this screenshot? I cannot find this exact quote anywhere. It echos a 2022 statement from DSA international (which opposes NATO expansion), although the "blames both sides" language isn't present.

Et Si C'etait La Fin?15

While extremely aggravating, I'd stop short of assuming that this is Mamdani's actual position himself.

Matt da Silva12

The DSA is internally pretty diverse. I doubt many DSA voters or even many DSA electeds hold these views, but these sorry planks are decided by fringe activists.

Gary Gifford10

This is meets my definition of "far left" which is different than the right's definition. Mine: Acting so far outside the mainstream that you actually help the opposition. Also refusing to vote for the Dem candidate because they're not "left" enough.

MFlower 🌻8

Source? Would like to read it there please.

Shellie6

Both sides is BS. Russia is the ONLY aggressor

Harry Tuttle5

where did you look this up and find this statement?

person4

there's a reason the bernie bros were the ones to get manipulated into spewing russian disinformation

Yeah a total Dealbreaker these people can’t be trusted

boykobostonian.bsky.social3

Mamdani also endorsed a NY state candidate who repeats Russian talking points. Disappointing.

Matt 🎙️🏀💙🧡3

Blaming both sides for a Russian invasion. Sounds logical 🤡

Gabby3

Putin attacked Ukraine. There is no both sides.

saudades3

this is such fuckin wrecker shit, pretty undignified and embarrassing for you, a person whose journalism i typically deeply respect

Naan 🚄🇵🇸📕3

Is this an AI summary? It’s a major over simplification. Very few if any blame Ukraine and those who do focus criticism on the government and it tying itself to NATO and also blame Russian imperialism as well. The DSA supports self determination for the Ukrainian people.

Aga 🇺🇦🇬🇱3

This war opened my eyes and I realized that the Western left is ignorant and hypocritical. It's just ideology and performative, selective empathy. I'm fucking disappointed wyborcza.pl/7,173236,281...

Meg in Vermont3

Very useful and relevant, thank you. I didn’t know of their both sides😖 Ukraine stance.

Mentor Sanders had his honeymoon in Moscow arranged by the same KGB front that did Trump's first trip. Bernie has also mentored and defended Tulsi, as WaPo exposes her links to a cult and Russia. AOC has links to Manafort. Ilhan voted against Russian sanctions but not Israel ones. Left is dirty too

Dorian Grey2

Mamdani is doing a lot of good things but it should be crystal clear to everyone that Russia is solely responsible for the war against Ukraine. Nothing else needs to be said.

SPFHockeyfan, Esq.2

The fuck is wrong with them

Blaming both sides on this conflict is a huge blow to one's credibility, whoever that may be.

kai(la)2

Mamdani said he would have putin arrested if he came to NY so it seems like he doesn’t believe this, but this person 😬

Jay Robertson2

"Both sides" in that conflict but not the Israel-"Palestine" one? 😗

Groupvox2

Ahhh...I see that the DSA has now embraced the "Charlottesville Strategy" What an embarrassment.

DSA are sometimes idiotic and don't read actual history but instead get information from Kremlin backed influencers. So not surprised. And showing them this fact has been a fools errand

carolsweinstein.bsky.social2

There is no both sides in the Ukrainian war. There is the aggressor…Russia. There is the defender : Ukraine. It’s really simple. Do Not Vote DSA!

11thuniverse.bsky.social2

This is why Europe and Canada and the rest of the Western world does not, and should not trust USA, regardless of who is in power. Diversification and reliance on its own resources is the key.

11thuniverse.bsky.social2

So how exactly are they opposing Russian invasion? By cutting off support for Ukraine ?

Winter2

Absolutely wild. Not only does the international platform repeat Russian propaganda about NATO “encircling” them but they also are against sanctions broadly. So no military opposition, no sanctions? Just “diplomacy?” What are we doing here?

Chirpchirp2

Gold standard shit take on Ukraine. What kind of bullshit is this?!
