FEC filings confirm GOP meddling in Dem primaries

politicsJun 21, 20262274

FEC filings show pop-up PACs Lead Left and Real Change were funded entirely by a Republican-linked super PAC that spent more than $4.3 million across recent Democratic primaries. Those groups spent in contests in Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Nebraska and Maine to boost candidates portrayed as less electable, timing donations so donor identities did not have to be reported before ballots closed. This tactic can change which candidates advance in primaries and helps Republicans face weaker general-election opponents, highlighting loopholes in federal campaign finance rules that let donors remain hidden until after votes are cast.
