Jon Snow: A Last Big Story
Channel 4’s documentary Jon Snow: A Last Big Story follows veteran newsreader Jon Snow as he confronts an Alzheimer’s diagnosis while pursuing one last major investigation. The film shows medical testing and Snow’s partnership with his wife alongside his reporting on a Zambian mining disaster that destroyed homes and communities. The programme documents Snow’s efforts to expose the companies and authorities responsible and to amplify an underreported humanitarian crisis. The film matters because it humanizes Alzheimer’s in a high-profile journalist while using his reporting to spotlight injustice abroad.
Really quite taken aback and sad at how frail Jon Snow looks - he's eight years younger than my dad, yet looks a decade older than him. Bastard Alzheimer's.
I've met Jon a few times and he was always a delight to spend any time with. Such a big personality.
Yep. Mum didn't look like she was in her 80s until very close to when she died. Last time I saw her she was so incredibly frail. (But quite happy) Alzheimer's doesn't just affect memory. It also makes people really frail and prone to falling.
It really destroys so much of a person, including all their subtle mannerisms you don't normally clock on to, that make up that person as a whole, as the one you remember.
