The Weather Prediction Center issued Mesoscale Precipitation Discussions 468 and 469 flagging heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding for southern New Mexico and the Texas Big Bend as well as the Central Gulf Coast including southern Alabama, Mississippi and coastal Louisiana. National Weather Service offices issued Flash Flood Warnings and Flood Watches on June 19, including a Flash Flood Warning from NWS Albuquerque for parts of New Mexico and watches for Baldwin and Mobile counties in Alabama and surrounding areas. Forecasters noted some Gulf Coast locations have already received more than two feet of rain over the past days and warned that an additional two to four inches of rain would produce rapid runoff, urban flooding and inundated highways. These conditions create life-threatening flash floods in low-lying areas, small creeks, underpasses and along highways, so residents in warned counties should avoid flooded roadways and follow local NWS guidance.
