Lionel Messi becomes first player named to six World Cups, scores vs Algeria
Lionel Messi started for Argentina at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City in their World Cup Group J opener against Algeria, marking his sixth World Cup roster selection. He opened the scoring with a 17th-minute goal to put the defending champions 1-0 up. The milestone and early goal underline Messi's extraordinary longevity on the international stage and give Argentina a fast start defending their 2022 title.
the past few weeks I've seen a bunch of posts like "can you believe LIONEL MESSI is playing a soccer game in (x location in the United States" which is pretty funny considering where he currently plays club soccer
Lionel Messi has played soccer in Chester, PA!
This would have been even funnier a year ago when the answer wasn’t Miami
ok but i genuinely cannot believe he played a game in auburn, alabama
best thing about miami is that its so close to the united states
If I was as rich as Lionel Messi I think I’d probably retire. He must really like soccer.
Sorry but rich people who still go to work are weird
I think without it, he will die.
"Football is a good walk spoiled." -- Lionel Messi
the general thing of being so deep underwater in a sport since childhood and only knowing the rhythms of training/playing, even if they have a wife/kids, so many footballers are so lost in the sport, retiring must be daunting.
It's so funny how much rich dudes in every sport still play after becoming rich. Dude, you can quit!!!!
Atp im more concerned about what’s gonna happen when he retires. Is he just gonna ascend into heaven? Do Lays ads for the rest of his life?
I appreciate that he seems really committed to playing on the same team as his pals, but not to the extent that it's embarrassing (at least not yet)
