Shrek 5 teaser trailer released, film set for Summer 2027
No, DreamWorks is not changing the #Shrek5 art style with a year left until its release just because you can’t accept hyperrealism isn’t the trending style anymore and that they’re allowed to try something new with our current technology like they did with Puss in Boots.
see what I personally find funny is the complaints about the casual swearing and pop culture references....like, are people so nostalgia-poisoned they forgot what the original movies were actually like?
People got waaaaay too comfortable of demanding changes for the designs they didn’t like just because it works for Sonic Movie 1.
The Sonic redesign really gave some people this idea that they can just change anything if they want it
Honestly, the animation style isn't that bad. It's not the original Sonic movie levels.
(Patrick raises his hand) "And the Sonic movie was one of the rare exceptions" (Patrick puts his hand down)
I understand not liking or not being fully adjusted to the new artstyle, but it would be nice if people would stop being childish and understand that what's done is done.
It honestly doesn't look that bad. The last Shrek film came out in 2010, let them try something different with this movie. "But I don't like change". Well then go watch the original movies and let the rest of us have fun.
I got called the r slur for not realizing the difference in animation Like yeah Donkey looks more furry but Shrek atleast to me looks somewhat the same TmT
The new art style is no realism, but I can accept it. It feels more expressive, I think why people don’t like it is because nostalgia projection
Honestly, I didn't mind the art style for Shrek 5, it looked like how 90% perfect of DreamWorks movies would. Sure it may not look like how it was for the last four movies but times change and all that jazz.
I would’ve liked if they’d gone for PIB TLW style for consistency, but as is it’s fine.
I like the new designs, Shrek and Fiona look like they have actually aged.
i think the new designs are good
i dont get it its just fine. its like some fans saw what happened with sonic and thought they obtained a super power.
And I’m also scared that people are gonna compare Shrek 5’s animation to AI. It could happen, or it already has, who knows?!
are people STILL bitching about this (of course they are, who am I kidding)
I don't understand!!! Why are some animation fans so bitchy? They already changed the animation style of Shrek 5, thats why they delayed it to Summer 2027, now the character designs look much better and more how they look in the first four. Yes. They have that hypersurrealist look, but thsts fine.
I could be wrong about the final product, but I've always kinda feared how irony-poisoned a Shrek revival might be, and the trailers do not inspire much confidence. At this rate there's a non-zero chance they'd reference "Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life" with how self-referential Shrek 5 looks.
The announcement teaser basically being one long TikTok joke about Shrek's meme culture feels like a warning.
Star Shrek V: The Final Layer Dir. by William Shrekner A rogue ogre is traveling to the center of the universe to find the great onion but instead finds a turnip.
given that it was just a teaser trailer. part of me is hoping that it's just a really bad trailer. like they took the few unfunny bits of the movie and put them together. the shrek movies usually have alot of heart put into them, even with the disney parodies, so I don't have 0 hope for it
There's definitely going to be a lot of meme references, but idk if they'd be brave enough to reference the greentext story involving Shrek fucking a guy who prayed to him. That being said, the idea of Shrek 5 referencing it and accidentally introducing a new generation to *that* sounds hilarious
Weren't they always a bit like that though?
I never saw the trailer for Shrek 5. All I know is it’s been delayed to next year. I did see Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and I LOVED it (poignant, beautiful stuff!). But yeah I don’t like when media contracts self-referential irony poisoning for its own sake. Doctor Who does it well though.
Someone should do an essay on how irony injections worked for the first Shrek, and AREN'T working for Shrek 5
First look at Shrek & Fiona’s sons in ‘Shrek 5’
They look like they use Kalshi
I know ogres are supposed to be ugly but damn 😅
These ogres have said “no cap“ for sure
Is the one on the right voiced by Seth Rogen? Because he looks like it.
Shrek's a bad father; you can tell because he let his son get a broccoli haircut.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish set the bar so damn high that it made people unironically excited for Shrek 5. Then the trailer came out and HE’S NOT EVEN IN THE FUCKING MOVIE LMAO
I'd chalk it up to the gap in-between each movie (2022 for Last Wish and 2027 for Shrek 5). Like, while you still see people raving about The Last Wish, you don't see that *as much* anymore as the hype eventually died down.
It's satisfying watching DreamWorks fans get humbled after bullying Disney fans.
The Sonic Movie was at least early enough in the effects phase and not fully in love with their chosen design that they were able to consider the backlash as feedback and delay the film in order to change it to something more favorable. Shrek 5 feels confident in its art style, and I respect that.
The Sonic Movie was also predominantly live action with Sonic himself being a visual effect added in post - easier to change that vs an entire animated movie built from the ground up.
Same. I think it’s a very nice upgrade from the original looks of the shrek movies.
Plus Shrek 5 has been in development hell for a decade
