Half of world’s children exposed to 3+ climate hazards, UNICEF says

UNICEF says about 1.1 billion children, roughly half of the world’s children, are exposed to at least three overlapping climate hazards including heatwaves, storms, floods and droughts. The agency reports that almost every child, including those in high-income countries, now faces at least one climate hazard. UNICEF urges governments to build child-specific safety, education and health metrics into national climate plans and to scale resilient infrastructure finance to reduce exposure. Overlapping hazards increase threats to children's health, education and safety and make targeted adaptation and disaster-preparedness investments more urgent.
