The Justice Department's Antitrust Division granted conditional approval Friday to Paramount‑Skydance's $111 billion bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. Career antitrust officials were leaning toward recommending a challenge, and several state attorneys general, including California AG Rob Bonta, said they will prepare lawsuits to try to block the transaction. The deal would unite Paramount and Warner Bros. libraries, bringing HBO, CNN, Star Trek and major film franchises under one owner controlled by the Ellison family. If completed, the merger would reshape streaming competition, advertising markets and news ownership, triggering prolonged legal and regulatory battles that could delay or derail the deal.
