Spike Lee spotlit at Knicks title celebrations

moviesJun 14, 20264210,344

Spike Lee joined Brooklyn celebrations after the New York Knicks won their first NBA title in 53 years. Lee has held Knicks season tickets since 1985 and attended Patrick Ewing’s first game, making this his first NBA championship after 41 years of courtside fandom. He was celebrated in Fort Greene and cheered alongside celebrities including Tracy Morgan, John Turturro and Giancarlo Esposito, and he has paid for his own tickets since the 1980s to avoid celebrity-seat obligations. Lee’s long presence at Madison Square Garden turned the title into a personal milestone and a symbol of decades-long loyalty rewarded.

A lot of congratulations are in order for long suffering Knicks fans, but maybe none more than Spike Lee who has been courtside for nearly every Knicks game for the last 41 years

Love this for Spike Lee. He has been there for the Knicks forever. He needs to be the Grand Marshal at Thursday’s parade . Congrats Knicks🏀Congrats Spike.👏🏿

Quinn84

I agree. Spike deserves it over all. This from a celtics fan 😆

mrtoads.bsky.social41

I’ve always suspected he started making movies just so he could afford court side seats..

NotQuietMode_M.D.25

That is a real die hard fan. Give this man his flowers. 🙌🏻

Beans23

It was Spike’s visit to Pope Leo that did it. 🤣

My heart leapt for joy for Spike Lee the second it was realized that the Knicks WON! He had waited for so long and he finally got it!

witness2it.bsky.social18

Ben Stiller, too. When I first joined Bluesky in 2024, every other post I saw was something from him about a Knicks game. Happy for these folks that have been there supporting their team through it all.

Two incredibly cool things I learned recently about Spike’s tickets. He’s been paying for season tickets since the ‘80s because if he took the free celebrity ones, he’d have to act a certain way.

I met Spike Lee at the DFW airport in the 90s. I was in Class B uniform as a young soldier. I told him I liked his movies, he smiled and said thank you and shook my hand. Really no point to this story other than that’s really my only interaction with a celebrity, ever.

Jim Blount13

I'm not even a NBA fan, but when I heard the Knicks won, I was so happy for Spike Lee.

Victor1440313

He is genuine. When the Nets moved to Brooklyn, he was asked if he was going to become a Nets fan. He said he would have if the Knicks didn't exist, but he grew up wearing blue and orange, watching Reed, Frazier, and DeBusschere, so he would always be a Knicks fan.

je m’apelle rachelle13

Can vouch. He was scheduled to give a talk at my school and rescheduled because there was a Nicks game on the date of the talk. I think was 1997? 1998?

The South Dakota Standard11

Great filmmaker. Annoying fan who constantly tries to insert himself into the game. Cheer, Spike, but remember, you’re just one of the people on the sidelines.

Electronic Panopticon9

He's earned so much, but nothing more than this.

lora253rose.bsky.social8

He should get a championship ring and a place in the parade.

He was absolutely giddy. He was virtually speechless. Endorphins galore. It is like he won the Academy Award of Basketball himself.

41 years of showing up. That’s not fandom, that’s commitment. Congratulations, Spike👏

Best Seats In The House is a terrific book long overdue for a new afterword!

Island Dane7

Respect for Spike—the ultimate NON fair-weather fan 🏀 !

mr nobody5

Nope, these rich famous people are not "more of a fan" than anyone else.

northernsnowdog.bsky.social5

It’s rare to see Spike Lee truly happy.

Rey Wil4

Mo’ Better Blues & Orange went out and finally got Spike that damn Ring! Congrats Knicks fans. It has been a long time coming to type that.

Like Jack Nicholson and his beloved L.A. Lakers! We Love Your Devotion!

His watch is over. He can finally rest

Just Another GenX Heather4

Spike Lee is for real a true Knicks fan. You can tell he is a fan of the sport and the team, not just a poser.

Ha! My instincts were correct My poor eyesight thought it was Spike Lee in a Knicks gif And it was ! Congratulations to the athletes & the fans Many of whom waited longer than the athletes lifetime for this championship!

It's always beautiful when someone's faith is rewarded.

Wow. I am super thrilled for him. That is a dedicated fan right there 👏 👏👏

Trevor Smith3

Love this. The pure joy 😆 the expression is “little kid meeting Santa”

Jack The Cat3

The Patriots Celtics and Bruins had already won championships but I cried my eyes out when the Red Sox finally won after 86 years

Spike deserves to be riding one of the floats on Thursday! #superfan

FilmAlicia3

I’m sure he is a very happy man, today.

I've been a Spike leye fan a lot longer than a Wembenyama fan, so I support this. Also, I like the knick players.

CONGRATULATIONS NEW YORK KNICKS! CELEBRATE TILL AND CHANGE trump tower to KNICKS HOUSE!

M B L2

I didn’t even want the Nicks to win but it is do nice to see so much joy and positive energy and celebration from so many people.

wrenbyron.bsky.social2

Hopefully, Spike will construct an exquisite black onyx structure (adjacent to what Trump is constructing to showcase himself?) and exhibit his sports memorabilia and sport collections. Spike should charge a nominal entry fee for seniors and grant schoolchildren and youngsters free admission.

Prdnme2

Love this for all of the die hard fans. The ones who have been watching since before the last championship. Ones who could never afford to go to a game. Stuck with them every season. Watched every game on tv with their kids, grand kids and great grandkids. I love this especially for those fans

Jiminy1232

That’s what I thought when this series began : win it for Spike before he dies!!

Adrienne2

Good things come to those who wait.

not_naming_names2

proof that perseverance ultimately beats fruit

dooleyintheholler.bsky.social2

Deserves this win, congrats Spike!

Sharon Clark 🦋2

Must be nice to have all the money in the world to sit at a basketball game paying thousands of dollars and not caring about people who don't have food or can't pay their medical bills. I think some of those people are long suffering.

Thiel, Musk & Murdoch’s Influence in 🇦🇺🇬🇧 🇺🇸 Politics‼️2

I saw him hand out Knicks merchandise to fans for free. That’s a pretty decent thing to do. 👏

The Racket, LLC2

Spike was there when Reggie Miller killed the Knicks in just 8.7 seconds. Spike and The Knicks have a memory to replace that

3 bears taped together2
