June 14th, 'Rise Up, Sing Out' concert and national day of protest
Jane Fonda will host Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment on June 14 at Town Hall in New York City, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern and run about 90 minutes. The No Kings movement and the Committee for the First Amendment organized the one-night event with performers and speakers including Bette Midler, Patti Smith, Lily Gladstone, Rufus Wainwright, Joy Reid, Sasha Allen, and Broadway Inspirational Voices. Organizers are pairing the concert with a nationwide day of protest and coordinated watch parties and livestreams so communities can rally locally against rising fascism and in defense of free speech. The date falls on Flag Day, giving the event symbolic weight as a public show of solidarity for democracy and First Amendment rights.
