Protesters in Albania blocked construction at a protected coastal wetland after fences and heavy machinery arrived for a proposed luxury resort tied to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. Nearly two weeks of mass demonstrations, called the Flamingo Revolution, have targeted Prime Minister Edi Rama and the government’s approval of the project. Conservationists say the site supports significant flamingo populations and other wildlife, and that resort development would destroy habitat and threaten local fishing and farming livelihoods. The clash matters because it pits biodiversity protection in one of Europe’s poorest countries against international tourism investment, and could set a precedent for future conservation fights.
