Honorary Oscars announced: Glenn Close, Ridley Scott, Floyd Norman
The Academy will present honorary Oscars at the Governors Awards on November 15 to Glenn Close, Ridley Scott and animator Floyd Norman; producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. Glenn Close, a multiple-time Academy Award nominee who has never won a competitive Oscar, will accept her first Academy statuette. Floyd Norman, the first Black animator at Disney, is being honored for a 65-year career that includes work on Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, Mulan, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. The Governors Awards give the Academy a formal way to recognize lifetime achievement and behind-the-scenes careers that competitive categories often miss, spotlighting directing, producing and animation legacies.
