Scott Pelley accuses Bari Weiss of pushing 60 Minutes edits

journalismJun 8, 2026804,296

Scott Pelley told The New York Times that CBS News chief Bari Weiss pressured 60 Minutes producers to reshape a segment about Renee Good, citing emails that urged language portraying Good as driving toward an officer. Pelley said those notes arrived hours after a deadline and pushed wording that echoed President Trump's portrayal of the shooting. After his firing from 60 Minutes, Pelley urged Paramount to remove Weiss, saying her interventions threatened the show's editorial independence. The allegations spotlight potential political influence over a flagship news program and could further erode public trust in CBS News reporting.

Incredible interview with Scott Pelley who seems incapable of understanding Bari Weiss is doing exactly what she was hired to do. He keeps talking as if the ellisons just need to know that it’s gone awry. He has no idea they are the ones doing all of this. Fascinating

love the part where he’s like “she told me to find footage that makes protestors look violent and obviously I had already done this but she said it wasn’t damning enough???? I don’t understand??????”

A man convinced they’re not bad actors because they talk like him

"They need to understand that huge amounts of ppl are going to suffer & die without vaccination!!!" Sorry, pal, but they do. It's just part of the plan.

it really kind of reminds me of how a lot of newly minted ex-Scientologists' biggest criticism is that the church has drifted from L. Ron Hubbard's original plan rather than the whole plan being a scam in the first place, they're convinced that if they just did it right everything would've been fine

Exactly the same delusional shit as scientists all trying to explain "how essential scientific research is to the US economy & standing in the world & amelioration of infectious disease, climate, other risks".

Hedonism IV: Skull Island5

I assume he’s media savvy enough to know what is happening, but he assumes that committing to the bit of being “a newsman” will rally the people to his aid One of the reasons Sorkin is so successful is the people who hold the “real” jobs believe in that shit to their core

THEY KNOW ALL OF THAT. They are simply not motivated by the same things as the naifs who just want to "explain"...

People shouldn't lionize the show because it was good. I remember mainly segments on animal studies they would blow out of proportion as likely cures for things like cancer and Alzheimer's. That's not how that works!

Pelley, as would anyone else in his situation, is launching a PR campaign. He is also likely preparing a lawsuit over the termination of his contract to give him leverage in severance negotiations. Ellison would probably sign the severance check. You don't point the blame at that guy.
