Scary Movie reboot opens to $55M, franchise record

Scary Movie opened to $55 million in North America this weekend, the biggest debut in the parody series' history. The weekend also saw Masters of the Universe open to $29.3 million while Obsession and The Backrooms set opening records for distributors A24 and Focus respectively. Those results highlight strong demand for low-budget horror and comedy releases and could influence studio scheduling and streaming windows going forward.

If nothing else, Ellison's argument that PSKY can't survive without another merger looks a little flimsy when a movie of theirs is doing good. Still, we absolutely have to make sure Supergirl does better, if for no other reason than it'll anger the chuds who like the new Scary Movie.
