Knicks win Game 1 of NBA Finals, 105-95 in San Antonio
The New York Knicks rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio. Jalen Brunson scored 30 points and played through a first-quarter knee scare that briefly sent him to the locker room. San Antonio led at halftime behind Victor Wembanyama but could not stop New York's late run, handing the Knicks a critical 1-0 series lead as the Finals shift toward Madison Square Garden.
few people know this but when we elected zohran we also secretly voted on a ballot measure for the knicks to win the championship
It's because of that suspension of bedtime that they won.
if the Knicks win he is going to serve 11 terms as mayor
You probably just jinxed it. I'd delete this and go bathe in sage and tea tree oil. And drink a healthy shot of Irish whiskey. And a glass of Montelpuciano d'Abruzzo. Stat.
It’s wild that he became mayor of NYC, arsenal won the premier league and the knicks may be about to win the championship all in one year. Truly a blessed man.
unironically if the Knicks win their first title under socialism Mamdani's re-election is absolutely assured, you can't beat those vibes
New Yorkers are Not Normal about the Knicks, the only team in the region besides the Jets that have not won in living memory. Mamdani will be the Knicks Mayor, just like that
Few know this, but if the Knicks win there is an automatic snap election to overturn the '90's term limit measures only for Mamdani and Michael Bloomberg is required by statute to fund the repeal campaign.
I've had to explain this to several people who are not basketball fans AND several people who are not New Yorkers and you're absolutely correct
I harbor zero ill will toward Tom Thibodeau but it is very funny that the Knicks just won a Finals game that was close until the end with only one player exceeding 35 minutes
the other funny one is that here Mike Brown sits, smiles, then offers his entire game plan, analyzes its execution, and diagnoses precise issues to improve upon youtu.be/z_gIoZjzdlU?...
i had a sad thought during the layoff, picturing him watching the Knicks not only outperform his tenure but also, just, like, systematically disprove some of his most fundamental beliefs about basketball, the only thing he cares about in the world. to be clear i like him as a coach and as a person
I do think that playing for Thibs increased each of these guys’ stamina which is paying off even now
on the one year anniversary of us firing him!
Alvarado and Shamet saved the game keeping it close in first half. They’d never see the floor if Thibs is still the coach
The number of subs Mike Brown has made not a moment too soon or late has been unbelievable There's also no universe in which shamet and deuce have that level of confidence in a finals game of a playoff run under thibs
he was a necessary step in the process. the Buck Showalter of basketball.
I laughed so hard when I realized Mike Brown went 10 deep in a finals game.
This has true the whole playoffs. Knicks who were playing 40 min/game last year have better legs than their opponents in the 4th quarter because they feel like it's still the 3rd quarter. All of the Knicks opponents have been tired in the 4Q and shooting badly from the field and the line.
And Shamet getting 33 off the bench
I don’t think we’re prepared for how insufferable New Yorkers are going to get if the Knicks win the Championship. Ungodly levels of insufferable.
if it happens, zohran is guaranteed a second term. no one can say no to the mayor who got a knicks championship. it’s like obama coasting to reelection off of the assassination of osama bin laden. sort of.
look, it makes my teeth hurt because I do badly with cultures with naturally high levels of shit talk as a baseline, plus I'm a Spurs fan, but on the other hand it's a net positive for New Yorkers to associate the Mamdani years with a time of mythical levels of cultural wealth
By the way, this is not a dig, I am rooting for Mamdani’s team
You are absolutely not prepared. We will be awful without apology. Just 10 million chalamets.
Look, James Dolan is a colossal prick, and his other team - the NY Rangers - took a catastrophic nosedive from first to worst that started the minute Trump did his MSG rally, so let NYers have this.
Can't be any worse than the last 18 months of OKC fans and Shai glazers. I don't mind if the Knicks win this one. 53 years since they last won. And the Spurs with Wemby are likely to be the next Golden State dynasty.
