Tommy Robinson speaks at Southampton protest, accused of incitement

politicsJun 3, 2026654,050

Tommy Robinson spoke to a crowd outside Southampton police station at a protest over the murder of Henry Nowak. Police clashed with demonstrators after Nowak's family pleaded that his death not be used to create division. Critics said Robinson's remarks amounted to incitement, and video from the scene shows officers pulling back amid disorder. The incident matters because it risks inflaming tensions between communities and placed added strain on local policing and public safety.

This headline is a travesty. It's not a protest and it's got nothing to do with Henry Nowak. It's a racist riot. Call it that.

Wait the murderer already got life?!?!? What are they protesting? As an American I assumed the guy had just gotten murdered or the murderer had gotten a sweetheart deal or something but this is just a lynch mob

Simon Evans36

BBC news is finished as a reliable informant. I think it's irreparable now. Best to let it go.

Heath Mountford 20

It’s a #FarageRiot. Call it as such.

Year 2 of the #FarageRiots

Racist riots invited by Farage the fascist

Bob Shields10

#FarageRiot call it what it is.

Nowak's family, from Chafford Hundred in Essex, had called against using his death as a cause of further "division, hatred or tension". I remember Lee Rigby's family doing the same But these knuckle draggers don't care. They hurl chairs at the police and call it protest

It's going to get worse , and that's because the BBC have injected it into the mainstream. They're like some far-right X account that only reports crimes by black and brown people, and then today it's been a constant parade of Reform politicians banging on 4Chan-style about "anti-white racism".

drgonzo1.bsky.social8

This is wrong, so very wrong.

It's A Scam7

Definitely not a protest. Or a debate. People turned up excited about having a scrap with police. That's about it.

broggins.bsky.social6

If they shut the train lines to Southampton none of these people would be there. They’re not local

Earonn6

It's a distraction from Farage's £ 5 million bribe and his 'hacked' phone and we need to point that out again and again.

Merry Christmas, as in the other place.6

I read that Tommy Robinson was there, it is time he was put back in jail for racism and inciting violence.

Rob McIvor4

More than that, it’s another #FarageRiot. It’s exactly what he was calling for in his video rant yesterday.

John Wilks3

The progressive majority must take every opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder, literally and metaphorically, with minority communities. We must not allow Farage, Musk, Robertson et al to threaten and harm our fellow citizens

P.2

Polish are angry you dumb kunt. It’s a protest. No different than George Floyd.

BBC doing this too. "Police pelted with missiles at Henry Nowak protest" smears an innocent victim again Try "Police pelted with missiles after Southampton murder" Inappropriate to call it a "Henry Nowak protest" when his family explicitly call for it NOT to happen. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

‘Police pelted with missiles after Farage stirs up trouble’. Fixed it for you.

Sunder, this feels like a problem caused by subs thinking about SEO for digital headlines and not considering the full meaning of what they are writing. 1/2….

The BBC coverage today has been shocking.

Peter Taylor8

Standards at the BBC have been slipping for years, especially where News is concerned.

‘Protest’ even when clashing with authority can still be just and happen in a moral framework. Context matters. Any normal sensible person understanding the context would be right not to afford these people the use of neutral ‘protest’; ‘Riot’ and ‘thug’ are the only appropriate nouns here.

Clare M4

Reading this article - Starmer and Mahmood have done little to calm the bonfire of inflammatory reaction. I feel very strongly that it was not in the public interest to see the footage (which was upsetting) particularly before the IOPC has conducted its investigation. Awful for the family & police.

Sue3

They have no empathy for the victim or his family. They sicken me.

Dewi Ioan2

It is the Farage Riots

DJN2

Sadly, it's no use talking about it here, the BBC refuses to engage with Bluesky.

C2

I'm pretty sure none of his friends or fellow students who actually knew him would have been at that "protest". It's a complete hijack.

Tocoso2

If the protesters were from any ethnic minority and they 'pelted missiles' at the police it would be a scandalous evil attack. We used to call football thugs football thugs.

This is the Britain Farage offers. A "Tommy Robinson Britain" steaming with division and violence and hate. I strongly believe it's one that the very vast majority of us are united against. #FarageRiots2

Make no mistake. Nigel Farage will be delighted. He wanted this. He was careful not to *directly* incite it, but he will be gleeful nonetheless. To call it a "Henry Nowak protest" is to besmirch the good name of a fine young man. It is a Farage Riot. Another one... 🤮 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Police are monitoring the potential for disorder sparked by the murder of Henry Nowak, which has been seized upon by the far right A protest has been called in Southampton tonight and the situation is being tracked by a unit that decides if to trigger a national response inews.co.uk/news/police-...
