Missouri funding cut threatens Dolly Parton free book program
Missouri Republican lawmakers plan to remove state funding for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, ending Missouri’s public support for the free children's book program. The Imagination Library sends one free book each month to enrolled children from birth through age five and partners with local libraries and nonprofits to distribute books across the state. Cutting state funds will force local affiliates to scale back enrollment or seek private donations, reducing early-literacy access for low-income families.
I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton. We're the same age and height, but she can sing better. Shame on Missouri Republicans for slashing funding to Dolly's Imagination Library, which provides free books to over 170,000 children every month. They must reverse these cuts immediately.
