Pentagon bars journalists from press office

journalismJun 2, 202635909

The Pentagon redesignated its press office inside the Washington headquarters as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, and Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez said journalists may no longer enter the workspace. The SCIF designation restricts access to cleared personnel and officials cited classified material handled in the office as the reason for the change. The move forces reporters to request appointments for interviews and constrains routine, in-person reporting on Defense Department operations and policy, limiting public visibility into military matters.
