Resident Evil team says a Japan‑set entry has been considered

Masato Kumazawa, producer of Resident Evil Requiem, says Capcom’s Resident Evil developers have repeatedly considered setting a future Resident Evil game in Japan. Japan has not served as a primary setting in the mainline Resident Evil series to date, but Kumazawa said "it might make an appearance at some point in the future." He said the team does not impose strict rules on where games can take place, keeping the franchise open to new locales. A Japan-set entry would allow Resident Evil to draw on Japanese locations, folklore, and enemy designs, potentially shifting tone and refreshing the survival-horror formula.
