Rumor: Baldur's Gate II remake reportedly in development
Wizards of the Coast is developing an official Baldur's Gate II remake with original co-lead designer Kevin Martens returning to the project. PC Gamer and Gematsu report the studio may also pursue a remake of the original Baldur's Gate alongside the BG2 work. A modern remake of the 2000 CRPG classic could update its Dungeons and Dragons mechanics, bring the story to current platforms, and reshape how new players encounter the franchise.
An official Baldur’s Gate 2 remake is reportedly in the works at Wizards of the Coast. https://bit.ly/49zeyQP
Remaking 2 without remaking the first game would be.. very strange. I mean you literally start the game by escaping from a place with the canon party from the first game?
I would hope it'll be a remake of 1 and 2 considering they are one large story
Oh shit, the're going to ruin a masterpiece.
Rumours of a Baldur’s Gate II remake. If the idea is to bring it up to the standard of BG3, I really don’t see how this is feasible without either cutting a lot of stuff or splitting it into multiple games ala FF7 Remake
Article also speculates that they’re working on a remake of 1 and 2 concurrently. That sounds like a studio biting off much more than it can chew, tbh
Its WotC which with all due respect to the studio involved means it's likely being done on the cheap trying to cash in on BG3
pointless not least because people are already modding bg1 into bg3
I don't *not* see the appeal of remaking BG2 but yeah considering it was already 'enhanced' a few years ago the only logical thing would be a BG3-style reimagining and that's just doesn't seem realistically compatible with the scale of BG2 (even if it is already less sprawling than BG was)
Oh, I'd be so up for this. I didn't play I or II back in the day either as couldn't afford, the family PC couldn't run it or both. Then I tried the upgraded edition about 10 years ago and just couldn't get on with the basically real-time combat. Would love a full turn based go. 🥲
