Marilyn Monroe marks 100th birthday

moviesJun 1, 20261033,384

Marilyn Monroe would have turned 100 on June 1, 2026, and the centenary prompted photo exhibitions, archival film clips and public tributes. Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926; she married James Dougherty, Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller and starred in Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot. Centennial coverage highlighted George Barris’s last Santa Monica photo taken three weeks before her death, renewed praise for dramatic performances in Don't Bother to Knock and Niagara, and anecdotes such as Ella Fitzgerald crediting Monroe for helping book the Mocambo nightclub. Her continuing relevance matters because Monroe reshaped midcentury stardom and popular culture, prompting fresh reappraisals of her singing and acting beyond the blond stereotype.

Happy 100th to arguably the most famous movie star of all-time, Marilyn Monroe (here on the set of The Seven Year Itch (1955)) 💎

Not to diminish her in any way🌹🌹, but I learned today that Andy Griffith was also born June 1, 1926!

This wardrobe test reminds me of P. G. Wodehouse's classic line: "It looked like they'd been poured into their clothes and forgot to say 'when.'"

Love how the "x" shoe design mimics the "x" at the dress's neck.

Liz Taylor, Greta Garbo, Betty Grabel, Loren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, Kathryn Hepburn. Ingrid Bergman, Hedy Lamar, Natalie Wood and more. SO many. My Mom knew a lot of them, worked in the Studios as a Mail Carrier during the war when all the boys were gone. Stories she told me!!!!

obvious vs oblivious: in 1955 she was auditioning for the part of: "the girl". 71 years later, actresses, excuse me, "actors" are auditioning for the part of "the woman". "woman #2". or the mom. marilyn was murdered.

Watch Monroe in a scene with a ten year old boy. "River of No Return." She wants to establish a connection with the kid. She turns off the "sex appeal" and is just any grownup woman being nice to a kid.

She was Mexican by the way. Let's not forget that.

I'm going to go out on a limb here ... I never found her pretty. She may have had a figure that cranked-up libidos (which is disgusting, TBH), but I never found her pretty. The juxtaposition between the babyish way she talked against how she looked always annoyed me.
