Toy Story 5 early reactions praise 'devastating' scene
Early preview coverage says Toy Story 5 opens with a "devastating" scene that a critic WHO watched the first 45 minutes called one of the franchise's most heartbreaking moments, directly comparing it to Toy Story 3's finale. Disney and Pixar release Toy Story 5 in theaters on June 19, and studios are forecasting a franchise-record opening weekend as anticipation centers on that emotional opening. The film's return to the series' signature tearful stakes could drive stronger early ticket sales, soundtrack interest, and awards-season attention.
its funny to see them hype up how heartbreaking something in toy story 5 is. i'm all for drama and stuff but first toy story movie was mostly a comedy and it is still hilarious. maybe they should try instead making a genuinely witty funny film again instead of squeezing out tears of 30 yo somethings
2 had more melancholic undertones but it was still mostly a comedy and emotional beats felt earned. 3 was meant to be a big farewell so it being focused on delivering emotional climax was understandable. but now every next movie has to outdo it in this department i guess. its never gonna work lmao
Sometimes I wonder if Pixar's reputation for being "the studio that makes you FEEL" puts them under pressure to sell their movies off of potential emotional weight, and their movies that lack that sorta gut punch of Up's opening scene flounder in marketing bc of that
It worked in 2 and especially 3 but then after anything just feels superficial cause this shit was already over!! We already had an emotinal conclusion
With all the Toy Story talk about Jessie’s story I think it’s important to point out that Joan Cusack who is a notoriously private person and made her first public appearance in 11 years for this movie was born on 10/11… The actress who voices Jessie Jane Pride was born on National coming out day
MIND YOU she is the sibling of John Cusack who is the star of Say Anything mentioned on her New Heights episode and was incorrectly referred to as a John Hughes movie even though he was in 16 Candles which is actually a Hughes movie. Also in High Fidelity which has a tv adapt starring Zoe
Literally YES. Also Tom Hanks is in a League of Their Own too which I was just threading about yesterday
In the interview someone else posted here she talks about what an honor it was to bring Jesse's story to life and I'm just too emo for this 😢
also welcome to me (ME!) i’ve posted about the movie before i can’t find them right now that movie is so so so coded as taylor especially lover i’ll keep looking
she’s also in pop star which i’ve done videos on how it connects back to taylor in my mind map but taylor is arrested for murder in it 💀 and in b99 andy has a restraining order against him for stalking taylor. how meta 💀 💀
I am precisely in the demographic of people who probably would not have watched Toy Story 5 before but will because of Taylor Swift
I did not, admittedly, watch Cats because of her. One has to draw the line somewhere
I was hanging with one of my best friends yesterday and she was saying how she wouldn’t see TS5 (even though she’s a teacher) and I was like “yeah I’ll probably wait for streaming” bc I had no interest in it until Taylor lmao and I love the whole TS franchise
