Wes Streeting urges National Insurance cut for employers
Wes Streeting proposed a targeted cut to employers' National Insurance contributions to incentivise firms to hire, especially younger workers, he told the Sunday Times. Streeting, the former health secretary and Labour leadership hopeful, presented the NI cut alongside a call to restart North Sea oil and gas drilling as part of a pro-growth package. The policy would lower employers' labour costs, aim to boost youth hiring, and could shift Labour's economic pitch toward supply-side incentives if Streeting wins the leadership.
Both of which happen to be the same positions as Reform UK's. Why would anyone who doesn't care about either the living planet or distributional fairness vote for Streeting, rather than Farage? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
FFS, what is the point of Labour?
And the same as the Tories before the last General Election. Streeting is in the wrong party. bsky.app/profile/joly...
Considering the lead time for new drilling in the north sea and the lead time for renewable energy, there's no short term gain in drilling and by the time it is on line, renewable energy is available anyway. So what's the point?
Ffs. Burnham insists on making Brexit work, Streeting wants the drill. Just going to stick my head in a meat grinder.
He's a Tory with a red tie (and an enormous sense of self-importance) who loves PFI It would be bonkers to replace one #Labour leader with another one that is at least as bad, if not worse I really don't understand why he has put himself forward 🤷♂️ www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/09...
As usual 'Farage is right about everything, but vote for me' 🙄
When will Labour politicians stop doing the far Right’s work for it and instead confront them by opposing them head on? History teaches us fascists cannot be appeased, fascism must be confronted and smashed, its policies opposed and progressive alternatives promoted in their place. It’s infuriating.
Vote for Wes “even worse than Starmer” Streeting
The creatures outside looked from Farage to Streeting, and from Streeting to Farage and from Farage to Streeting again; but already it was impossible to say which was which Apologies to George Orwell
All those slagging off Starmer and bigging up Streeting are looking utterly stupid right now.
Streeting is as far up big oil, Palantir, big pharma and Israel's arse that is possible to be.
He wants to take votes from Reform by stealing the policies that Reform voters don’t really care about. Bold strategy.
Reform voters don’t care about policies. They don’t expect anything to improve under a reform government either. They expect to get shafted. They just know that voting reform (like Brexit) is one in the eye for the hated political class.
In terms of energy illiteracy, he's leading the field ageoftransformation.org/britains-rig...
This concept that you can bully people into getting a job or incentivise employers to hire people they don't need is absurd. The issues are a lot more fundamental than that. Streeting and the entire Labour government don't seem to have even a simple grasp on how people actually behave.
He is so weirdly, endlessly determined to be an immoral shit. At this point I'm pretty sure it's got to be a kink thing. He can't get to full mast unless he's publicly pushing for something that will harm a lot of people.
It shows how false he has been up till now. Unprincipled and ambitious.... bad combination.
I don’t understand how they can’t see that someone it’s the intention to vote Reform will never vote Labour, not even if they were giving out free money. Labour deserve doom and annihilation for courting right wing voters over their own.
Labour is utterly stupid. There's a clear path to victory at the next GE, and none of them can see it.
Back to form with our Wes! 🫨 I believe Westminster is having fits of the vapours because they can't quit the Brexit brew, but the country is increasingly telegraphing that it has had enough, is exhausted and exasperated with the folly. A storm is coming. 💥
Wes Streeting is an archetypal bell end. He will not be a MP after the next general election.
He’s less likely to stink of fags? That’s about all I can come up with.
Its hard to imagine someone less likeable than Keir Starmer right now, but Wes Streeting manages it with aplomb.
Labour is still legitimizing Reform and will do anything to smear the Greens. Just like when the Democratic Party sidelined the most popular politician in the country to put Hillary Clinton forward, to protect the donor class from taxation.
Be nice if Wes could point out - as Torsten Bell has done - that employers don't pay NI on employees under 21 or on apprentices....both incentives to hire young people.
TB brings puppy to heel. Pitiful
I always thought he looked (and I mean in appearance) more Reform (or fascist) than anything remotely centre left.
The NI rise cost jobs. Doesn't matter who is or isn't opposed. It was a dumb tax rise.
Did Streeting always want to be a Tory but got a Labour gig instead? Apart from ignoring environmental insanity of 'drill, baby, drill' in N Sea + rejecting desperately needed transition away from FFs, gov would need to hire private + foreign state-owned firms to do it. Might cost > market price. 🥴
Why would anyone who wants our NHS replaced by a private insurance scheme vote for Streeting over Farage? Both are unsufferable cunts imho
#Streeting is one awful self centred human being. He disgusts me with his desperation to please Corporates, Fossils Fuel and Christian Concern 🤮🤮🤮
Wes Streeting (if he was honest): "I'm as bad as Farage, vote Green".
In this article, it is inferred also that Streeting acknowledges that new North Sea drilling won't do anything to bring down energy prices. Rather the justification is increase in tax receipts. But the oil companies are already making obscene windfall profits, so tax receipts could instead be ...
Streeting is an odious little turd. In my circle would be known as a cunt of a man
How's about we invest in the amazing modern technologies that allow us NOT to depend on fossil fuel from half the planet away?
Ya, what's up with that guy? I'm getting big JD Vance vibes from him. All things, to all people sorta thing. 🤷🏽♂️
He can take his fekn hands off Scotland. Doesn’t he knew that in 2014 we were told the oil was running out. Funny that. When they want their claws into more of Scotland’s resources there suddenly plenty. Streeting needs a road closed sign put in front of him. Nasty shit.
They're two cheeks on the same arse. He ought to own up to what he really is and bugger off to Reform. Or preferably just bugger off. 🙄
He's flailing about to see if anything can move his numbers. I'll save him some time, there isnt anything
It is exactly what was said by Rishi Sunak . Word for Word
In this Telegraph article from just before the last General Election, Rishi Sunak promised to increase North Sea drilling and cut National Insurance. Exactly what Wes Streeting is now promising. But, sure, Labour represents change.
You will never see a more Tory looking face than the face of Wes Streeting. He may as well get "Tory" tattooed on his forehead.
#votegreen if you want change
Drilling doesn't benefit our country in any way. Has Wes now got financial backers from fossil fuel industry? Or is he just trying to do Reform's bidding?
Didn't it hit 40 degrees in the past week in England? Weird to call people opposed to that "zealots." The English should not need air-conditioning, that's unnatural.
To be fair, I'd absolutely agree that Wes Streeting doesn't represent any possibility of change away from the neoliberal economics that have bedevilled us since Thatcher. You could extend that to "blue labour", quite easily. There may be other flavours available - we can only hope.
As we don’t practice defenestration in public life, if there is a leadership change, Streeting needs to be buried so deep in the back benches he will quit politics & take up one of the dozen adviser roles he’s been promised by oil, energy & healthcare companies.
“There are more people in work today than there were a year ago” Work & Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden responds to a suggestion from Wes Streeting that cutting employers National Insurance could be a way to incentivise businesses to hire more young people
They are just going to slash benefits for poor sick and disabled people. McFadden and his Labour cabal are a disgrace
It's my understanding that no national insurance is payable by employers for the under 21yrs or 25 in an apprenticeship.
Is that because employers are hiring 2 people at lower pay for 1 job and avoiding NI?
