Durham Pride boosted by miners and unions after funding cut
Reform councillors on Durham County Council withdrew about £2,500 in public funding for Durham Pride ahead of the event. Founder Mel Metcalf said trade unions and local supporters, led by Durham miners, raised roughly £25,000 to replace that money and keep the festival running. Organizers reported the extra support produced a bigger parade and underscored cross-community solidarity, showing that grassroots and union backing can sustain cultural events after political funding cuts.
Durham County Council, run by Reform, pulled £2,500 from Durham Pride. But the Durham Miners Association, mindful of the support from LGBT communities during the miners strike, stepped in and, along with other Unions made contributions to make this year’s Durham Pride bigger than ever before. 🏳️🌈💪❤️
This is a great example of networking within our communities to build support for each other. This is a way we can all win.
We are always stronger together 💌
And Crafty is throwing a fit screaming about how modern LGBT is evil and wrong and nothing to do with Lesbians and Gays support the miners as trans people were just invented last Tuesday. Pff.
Durham University has a great name but it could lose that greatness with a council like this

Nice single digit salute to the fascists
The Big Meeting shamed itself by allowing a TERF group to carry a banner there years ago, but seems to have seen the light since then. MN are upset, and Jo Bartosch has done her usual tripewriting about how there were no transez way back... "30 women against 200,000" should surely drop some hints.
And #DarrenGrimes stayed at home with his wank sock collection.
